JURY DUTY... YAY!!

Howdy all!! Boy, has this week been interesting. It all started with Monday's assigned jury duty, which is actually the first time I've ever even gone in to possibly be selected. In the past, I was always away at college, or had some excuse that was always accepted. This time, I didn't really try to get out of it, and who would, considering they pay you $10 just to go in, and $20/day if you're selected?? Those are the big bucks there!!

I was half-tempted when going through the security to take my shoes and belt off, just like in the airport, but thought better of it. The defending attorney actually went around to each potential juror in what appeared to be sizing them up, by making reference to what their career was. I was actually one of the first ones he went to. He said he'd never had a potential juror with my profession, and asked if I had any courtroom jokes. I was thinking I'd get out of duty if they saw "comedian" listed as my profession, but obviously I didn't. I told my joke about the guy who sued God.

The case was actually a pretty standard one for this day and age, failure to pay child support. We heard all the arguments from the defendant's family, of how he tries. I felt bad for him, because the job market is so down right now. The most annoying thing about jury duty for me, was after we deliberated, there were at least 3 jurors who kept wanting to not find him guilty based on feeling sorry for him. I didn't convict him before the trial, but I understood the judge's advice that we're to go on the facts, and be convinced "beyond a reasonable doubt..." Key word is "reasonable". Finally, everyone decided on a verdict, and if you can't tell yes, he was guilty. After we were dismissed, the defendant, whose voice we didn't hear the whole time (he never took the stand) got nasty with the judge.

So that was my Monday. I'm happy to report that yesterday I put on an Adidas hoody that I recently bought at a sale. When I bought it, it seemed rather smaller that I expected, but I couldn't return it. But yesterday, and even today it's fitting me awesome!! Hard work and dedication are paying off! I'm about to enjoy some more celery and ball parks (no, it's not all I've eaten since last week).

I'm subbing tomorrow for of all things, Criminal Justice...

Thank you guys for your continued support! God Bless!!

Forever In Christ,
